We frequently reach out to K-12 students to demonstrate principles of environmental remediation (e.g., water and wastewater treatment) and air pollution (e.g., PM2.5 sources and transport). We also assist high schoolers with science fair preparations including analytical measurements and presentations. We have also hosted several K-12 science teachers in our labs and train them on STEM topics in relation to the environment. Our main ideas are to (i) inculcate an appreciation for water and air quality issues facing our ambient environment, (ii) communicate our research findings to the broader community as a whole, and (iii) encourage minority students to pursue STEM careers.
